Details
1. 1260 ST MARGARET'S STREET (North Side)
Nos 56 and 58 (Cafe Blanchfleur) TM 1644 NE 2/168
II* GV
2. Formerly shown as No 58 (Cafe Blanchfleur). A C16-C17 timber-framed and plastered building, originally facing west, but very largely reconstructed in the C20 due to road widening when the original west front was rebuilt facing south. Much of this building has been reconstructed and its carved bressumers, bargeboards, etc are not original. The reconstruction has faithfully preserved its C16-C17 character. 2 storeys and attics, with 3 gables, the centre one projects slightly in front of the others. The 1st storey and gables are jettied on front with carved bressumers and carved bargeboards. 3 window range, mullioned and transomed windows with leaded lights. The centre window projects slightly with a moulded sill on brackets. Roof tiled. The interior has the remains of some C17 plaster ceilings decorated with fleur-de-lis.
Nos 56 and 58 (Cafe Blanchfleur) form a group with Nos 2 to 8 (even), No 1 (Lodge to Christchurch Mansion), Entrance Wall and Gates to Christchurch Park, and Brick Wall to St Margaret's Church Yard, Soane Street.
