9/43 Cherry Tree Farmhouse -
GV II
Farmhouse, now house. Late C17; altered in C18 and enlarged. Whitewashed render probably on magnesian limestone rubble, pantiled roof. Front range is single-depth, 2 units, with central chimney stack. Two low storeys; plain doorway at left end (now protected by glazed porch); two windows on each floor, all 2-light sliding sashes except that to the right at ground floor, which is a 2-light casement. Ridge chimney stack. Left return wall has small inserted window. (Additions to rear not of special interest). Interior: each room has a stop-chamfered spine beam; very deep chimney stack, with stone arched fireplace in 1st unit (now concealed): 2nd unit formerly unheated; former ladder-trap in ceiling to left of fireplace; concrete floors at 1st floor. Said to have been used as inn, and retains wooden wainscot of that period.
