Details
SOUTH ELMSALL BROAD LANE SE4ONE (south side) 11/49 Barn approx. 5 metres west of Broad Lane Farm East GV II
Barn. Probably late C17. Coursed squared sandstone, roof of stone slate in the lower and pantiles in the upper halves on both sides. Rectangular 6-bay plan. South front has large segmental-arched wagon doorway to 3rd bay with chamfered surround of dressed masonry; to the left, 1st and 2nd bays are covered by large added lean-to cartshed (not included in the item); to the right, 2 doorways with chamfered surrounds of dressed masonry (1st blocked), and above and between these a 3-light mullioned window (2nd mullion replaced by wooden prop); slit breathers on 3 levels; and an inserted window and a square loading door on different levels of the 4th bay. Right-hand (east) gable wall has a raised doorway with chamfered surround, a 3-light mullioned window to the left, and a similar window in the gable (2nd and 3rd lights blocked and this mullion removed). North side has altered wagon doorway to a lean-to addition to the right; and beyond this, slit breathers on 3 levels and a square loading door with chamfered surround (blocked).
