2. Approached by a drive from The Street. A C15 single span red brick bridge across the moat of the mound, with a 2 centred arch and diagonally set buttresses, The bridge formed the approach to the castle which was built by the Mandevilles, probably in the C12, and later passed into the hands of the Duke of Gloucester. It fell into ruins after the Duke was put to death by Richard II in 1397. (AM).
