SHIPTON MOYNE THE STREET ST 8889-8989 (off east side) 16/169 Glebe House GV II

Detached former rectory. Late C18/early C19 core, enlarged to north and west in later C19. Core of roughcast, remainder in coursed stone with flush quoins, all on chamfered plinth, stone slate roof with coped verges to core above pilaster strips in roughcast and sprocketed to C19 wings with concrete tiles to inner slopes, scattered stone end and ridge stacks with offsets. Mainly 2 storeys, with attic to north west range, core of single range, extended to west at right angles and in 2 parallel ranges to north. Core of 3 bays, 12-pane sashes in moulded architraves, with one small slightly recessed bay to right. Ground floor has large similar window to right, blocked central recess possibly originally a doorway, and triple glazing bar sash to left. Wing to right of 2 bays, cambered head 4-pane sashes in plain chamfered reveals, and similar fenestration to left hand return rear wing with canted bay and chamfered Tudor arch doorway up 4 stone steps. Rear C19 range has similar fenestration and 2 full dormers. Steep raking porch set in to rear angle. Although modest architecturally, this house forms a group with the adjacent Church of St John the Baptist (q.v.).
