II

Farmhouse with attached barn, now house. Early to mid C19. Red brick in Flemish bond, painted on south front and rendered on left gable; barn in coursed lias, roofs plain tile with two courses Welsh slate at eaves. A gable entry plan with staircase central to back wall and two principal rooms; the barn, rear right, later attached to house by link unit, now containing principal entry on right gable. Two storeys and attic, 2 windows; at ground floor are 3- light hollow chamfer stone mullion to round heads with leading, set back from flush jambs and lintels, first floor 2-light small pane horizontal sliding sash, alternating quoins, raised verges at gables all details in Ham stone. On left gable a small 2-light horizontal sash to attic, quoins and voussoirs as to front, and, to left, a Roman Doric portico to flat archi- trave on one step to glazed door; this was the original entry. Right gable in brick has similar attic window but C20 glazed door to right in link unit. Rendered gable stack, left, brick gable stack, right. Back, in brick has one 3-light stone mullioned to ground floor and 3 horizontal sliding small pane sashes to first floor. Two-light C20 casement in link. Barn has broad gables to stepped copings, brick dressings; at right end two plank doors at ground floor, one loading door above, right, at left end a central door flanked by C20 casements under a ventilating casement. Interior mostly as built, with square newel stair in stone, treads with nosings, through two floors, and simple wrought iron rail balustrade. All inner doors are stripped pine six-panel moulded, in flush, unpainted Ham stone jambs and lintols. Doorway from staircase to former entrance hall with basket-handle arch and keystone. Large opening formed from kitchen to barn annexe. Fireplaces mainly C19. Fluted jambs to rosettes. Shutters to ground floor windows. Plain ceilings. Some flagstone flooring. Roof simple A-frame exposed within two attic rooms. Barn has concrete floor, timber plank central division under square beam, central wall carried up to ridge. A-frame roof, purlins with tusk tenon fixing. A handsome little house which has been very little changed from its original build.
