TQ 29980 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER ST. JAMES'S SQUARE SW1 81/102 24.2.58 No 18 GV II Town house on corner site. 1846 refacing and alteration by Elger and Kelk of a 1725 town house. Stucco faced brick, slate roof. Ornate Italianate design. 4 storeys and basement. 4 windows wide and 3 window return to King Street with central entrance. Rusti- cated ground floor with vermiculated rustication to windows and vermiculated impost band linking bearded head keystones. 1st floor windows with balustraded balconies have architraves and unusual emphasis to 2nd floor where the similarly balconied windows have eared enriched architraves and segmental pediments. Small square attic floor windows in decorated frieze below prominent crowning cornice. Cornices separate each floor with rusticated quoining. The King Street return has slightly advanced broad central bay with large applied portico of clustered Doric columns, Venetian window on 1st floor behind balustraded balcony over portico, similar fenestration otherwise as on front to Square. The design is integrated with the terrace Nos 1A, lB, lC King Street, St James's q.v. by the same architects.
