Details

The following building shall be added; STAMFORD HILL N16 1. 5013 TQ 3387 7/599 Nos 266 and 268 II

2. House, now cafe and offices. Built c1730, with later alterations. Flemish bond brick with red brick dressings; No 266 rendered over; gabled corrugated iron and Welsh slate roofs; brick end stacks. 2-unit plan with central staircase. 3 storeys; 5-window range. One-storey shops of c1890 added to front. C18 cambered brick arches (rendered) over late C19 four-pane sashes and C20 windows to first floor of No 266; red brick quoins exposed to architraves of No 268. Gauged and moulded red brick cornice beneath parapet. Mid C19 extensions to rear. Interior of No 266: complete panelled room of c1730 to right; fine central staircase of c1730 with ramped handrails, column-on-vase balusters and closed string; panelled walls and panelled dado with ramped rail to stairhall. c1730 panelled doors and architraves; c1730 window joinery to first floor; moulded plaster cornices; mid C18 hob grate to second floor. No 268 noted as having similar interior. Shown on John Rocque's 1745 map of the area; Land Tax registers of 1740-2 refer to "a new house".
