WESTONBIRT WITH A433 ST 88 NE LASBOROUGH (off south side) 10/180 Stone shelter with seat to east of sunken garden at Westonbirt House GV II
Large ornamental stone shelter with wooden seat and flanking attached low walls. c1860s, possibly by Lewis Vulliamy. Overhanging cornice with small shell niche patterns, moulded ceiling with roundels and carved cones hanging down in form of fan vaulting, the whole supported on sides of seat by huge elaborate stone scrolls. Three arched shallow recesses to rear with decoration in fired clay, decorative tile floor. Low moulded walls sweep out in 2 quadrants, with similar short piece of wall opposite on edge of sunken garden to west with round pool and bronze statue of Mercury in centre.
