Details

WESTONBIRT WITH THE STREET, Westonbirt
ST 88 NE
LASBOROUGH (north side)
10/193 Nos 21 (Bowley's Cottage),
23 and 25 (Silva Cottage)
II

Three adjoining cottages. Probably c1854-6 by Lewis Vulliamy, as
part of the moving and rebuilding of Westonbirt Village by Robert
Stayner Holford in preparation for construction of Westonbirt House
(q.v.). Coursed stone, stone slate roof, 4 stone end and ridge
stacks, one raised at later date. Single long range, with rear
extensions of C20, single storey and attic. Two gables to each
cottage, but unevenly sized. Six bays, single lights flanking 4
central 2-light leaded stone mullions with square hoodmould.
Ground floors each have one 2-light and small projecting gabled
porch with coped gable and kneelers, chamfered Tudor archway and
plank inner door. No 23 in centre also has a single light
immediately left of porch. This range of cottages is important as
being the only one of the rebuilt village group including Nos 7-29
(odd), (q.v.), which remains virtually unaltered.
