Details
LANGAR CUM BARNSTONE CHURCH LANE SK73SW (west end) 5/114 Langar School 25.9.79 (C. of E.) and School House GV II School. Dated 1842. Brick in Flemish bond with ashlar dressings. Steeply pitched slate roof with moulded-brickwork eaves cornice and ashlar gable-copings on large moulded and gabled ashlar kneelers. Two, symmetrically placed ornamental stacks with grouped octagonal flues. Tudor style. A symmetrical composition with a 2-storey gabled cross-wing at each end and a single-storey central range which has a central projecting gabled open porch with arched doorway. Above the doorway is a tablet "AD 1842". To each side of the porch is a 5-light chamfered stone mullioned window. The left cross-wing has a similar 3-light ground-floor window and 2-light lst-floor window. The windows of the right gable have mullions removed and inserted C20 casements. The side elevations are treated similarly with single and 2-light windows and each has a lower, centrally-placed gabled projecting wing containing the arched entrance. The right wing has been extended at the rear. Interior: not inspected.
