TQ 2980 NW CITY OF WESTMINSTER SAVILE ROW Wl 70/109 No 17 5.2.70 GV II Terrace house. c. 1733 with early and mid C19 alterations. Stucco faced, slate roof. Originally 3 storeys and basement with 3rd floor and gabled attic added. 3 windows wide. Doorway to right semi- circular arched with beribboned bay-leaf architrave and a globe lantern projecting up from fanlight. To the left a canted bay window in recess, the cornice over on Egyptianised consoles. Upper floors have casements and sashes in shallow architraves; 1st and 2nd floor plat bands, cornices to 3rd and 4th floors and hipped gable finished off with ornate weathervane. 1st floor cast iron balcony supported by twisted iron columns. Wrought iron area railings and original stone obelisks in front of doorway. Residence of the architect George Basevi 1832-42 (L. C. C. plaque). Interior similar to No 16 but considerably altered early C19 and C20 though retaining mutilated dog leg staircase and panelled 1st floor front room with enriched cornice.
