TQ 3079 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER SMITH SQUARE, SW1 101/63 24.2.58 No 6 G.V. II * Corner terrace house. 1726, as part of Sir James Smith's development of the square. Brown brick, red brick dressings, tiled roof. 3 storeys, basement and dormered mansard. 5 windows wide with 2-window return to Lord North Street. Central entrance with panelled door in stone architrave case with carved consoles to cornice hood. Flush framed glazing bar sashes under red brick segmental arches. Brick plat bands between storeys; parapet with coping. Fine wrought iron area railings with scrollwork flanking entrance and remains of link extinguishers. Interior retains substantial amount of original panelling and open carved string staircase with turned and twisted balusters, changing to closed string for top flights, etc. Part of an exceptionally well preserved early C.18 enclave with Lord North, Barton and Cowley Streets q.v.
