10.11.55 Thatch Farmhouse.
GV II

House. C17-early C18, in 2 builds. Coursed ironstone and limestone rubble,
thatch roofs, brick chimneys. L-plan. 2 storeys. Front wing has 2 bays of
wooden casements with horizontal glazing bars and wooden lintels. Ground floor
has 2-light window to left and 3-light to right; upper storey has windows of 3
narrow lights. Flanking chimneys, the right with tapering shaft. Narrow
extension to left with C20 tile roof. Rear wing has 2 bays of similar casements
of varying sizes, those to upper storey in thatch eyebrows. Door is off-centre
to right, with cambered stone arch. Chimneys to right gable and centre. C20
single-storey extension to far end; lean-to extensions in rear angle. Interior:
rear wing has large fireplaces, winder stairs, and steps to cellar in internal
porch assembled from pieces of C17 moulded oak panelling with old oak board
door. Interior of front wing has been altered but retains stud partition between
upper rooms.
