Details
TQ 2781 SE CITY OF WESTMINSTER STANHOPE PLACE, W2 54/85 10.4.75 No. 8 G.V. II Terraced house. c.1830, part of the first phase of the Tyburnia development. Stuccoed with channelled ground floor; concealed slate roof. 2 storeys and basement (rather than the usual 3 or 4 storeys) with lofty 1st floor. Semicircular arched doorway to right with later door and plain fanlight. Recessed, square headed, glazing bar sashes. Plat band over ground floor. Crowning cornice and stucco balustrade of enriched interlace loop pattern. Delicate cast iron Gothick pattern balcony to 1st floor. Cast iron area railings with urn finials. Tyburnia was developed on the Bishop of London's Estate, planned in 1827 by S.P. Cockerell but laid out to modified plan by his successor George Gutch.
