Includes No 24, Main Street.
Two houses, part reputed to be a former market house. Originally C15-early C16,
extended C18-C19 and part rebuilt and altered early C20. End to Green is of
coursed ironstone rubble; front to Main Street rebuilt in brick and colourwashed,
formerly timber framed. Collyweston slate roof, coped gable to left of No 1, 2
brick chimneys. L-plan. 2 storeys. Front to Green has one C18-C19 bay of
3-light wooden casements with horizontal glazing bars and C20 door to left, and
re-fronted gable end of older wing, with similar 3 and 2-light casements to
right. Right return of gable end has upper part of wall slightly corbelled out.
Front to Main Street rebuilt early C20 with 4 bays of paired barred wooden
casements to first floor, irregular ground floor windows, and door to right.
Interior: older wing has fragments of framing in original rear wall, central
truss with heavy curved braces almost forming an arch with cambered tie-beam,
other tie-beams, and original roof with chamfered collars, clasped principals and
some curved wind-braces. No traces of smoke blackening.
