TQ 79 NW 18/507 10.4.67.
B 2. A small church of C12 origin much altered in the C18-C19, The most interesting feature is the early mediaeval timber-framed belfry dated by C A Hewett to the lst half of the C14. The framework is cruciform in plan, weatherboarded, the arms of the cross are of 2 stages, with low pitched gabled roofs. (The outer walls of the tower were probably originally octagonal). The upper part of the tower contains the remains of very early trefoil heavy wood tracery. It is topped by an octagonal shingled broach spire. There is the remains of a C12 window in the north wall of the nave. The south aisle and arcade is of circa 1330 and the chancel is early Cl6, with 2 good brick windows in the north wall. The south porch is C15 with a C14 door and the west door is Cl5. The interior has a small octagonal C14 carved font, a C13-Cl4 dug out chest and a C17 altar rail with alternate twisted and turned balusters. (RCHM 1).
