928/1/207 PLYMOUTH ROAD 16-MAR-78 (North side) CASTLE HOUSE (Formerly listed as: PLYMOUTH ROAD GOTHIC COTTAGE)

II Early to mid-C19 house in the Gothick style.

MATERIALS: Stucco front with hipped welsh slate roof with a gable to the principal elevation.

PLAN: Two and a half storey single bay house with a rectangular footprint.

EXTERIOR: The principal elevation (south) is of two and a half storeys. To the ground floor is a recessed triple sash window. To the first floor is an oriel window with three four over four sash windows. To the gable, with decorative bargeboards, is a small, pointed arch, tracery window. To the right hand side of the ground floor is a slightly projecting stucco doorcase with false battlemented parapet and C20 door. INTERIOR: Not inspected. REASONS FOR DESIGNATION: Castle House is designated at Grade II, for the following principal reasons: * An early to mid-C19 example of a Gothick house * The intactness of the façade with good quality Gothick detailing, especially to the bargeboards, windows and battlemented doorcase
