II

Detached house in grounds, former rectory. Early C19, for Admiral Digby. Rough render, slate roof. A handsome Regency house with low pitched roof dropped in to central flat; 2 room depth, L-plan entrance hall to staircase on left side. Small service wing back left. Two storeys, symmetrical 3-window front; original 16-pane sashes, but painted to blank panel over square flat-roofed porch with cornice and blocking course, a flight of steps, with pair of part- glazed panelled doors. Inner panelled door with fanlight. Return elevation, right has 3 above two 16-pane sashes; return left has large 24-pane staircase sash with small single light, then service wing with 16-pane above a 2-light casement and panelled door under lean-to roofs. Back has 2 above one 16-pane sashes, and, covering the service way, a low brick addition to hipped roof covering stair to small basement. Deep eaves on wide-spaced brackets, 3 brick stacks. The ground floor windows are larger than Lbose above. Interior: not inspected, but believed to retain original dog-leg stair with wreathed handrail and decorative spandrels.
