1841-42 modest symmetrical terrace of 2 storey grey gault brick houses. The end
houses, of 3 bays each, break forward lightly as do the central pair. Hipped
slate roofs, flat eaves. Plain coursed brick chimney stacks. The intervening
houses are of 2 bays. Revealed sashes, glazing bars intact, block sills, flat
gauged brick arches. Pilastered doorways, retaining panelled doors and rectangular
fanlights, with shallow cornice-hoods. No 147 (built as a public house) and
No 161 have central pilastered doorways with restricted reveals, whilst the
central pair of houses have coupled doorways with similar details. Interiors
remain unaltered with arched opening from hall to graceful stair case with slight
curve to cut string and continuous handrail. One of the first terraces to be
built on the privately developed New London Road.
