1. GREAT BADDOW 5215 GALLEYWOOD Barn at Great Seabrights Farm TL 70 SW 13/143A

II* GV 2. ca. 1520 Barn. Heavily framed in oak, of eight bays, with slightly later and off-central midstrey. Roofs ridged and gabled with eaves and fly-hips to main range. Black weather- boards and peg-tiles. Later midstrey, forelock-bolted to the posts of the fourth bay from the west wall side - girt, with five studs per bay of which the central stud is principal, curved wind-braces let into inner surfaces and spiked and confined to the returns and every alternate bay. Posts unusually heavy and jowled, with obtusely pitched tie beam braces with as many as eight pegs to each chase-mortise Roof with queen-posts and two side - purlins per slope, the common-rafters passing the upper end tenoned into the lower side - purlin-curved wind braces in each pitch. All principal timbers stop- chamfered. The midstrey retains Great Doors, much repaired and proberbly C18, it has queen-post roof and matching wind-braces; it was an afterthought because the main top- plate was cut through when it was added.
