Garden house or pavilion. c.1720, re-roofed late C18. Probably designed and built by William Thornton for Lady Bettie Hastings. Magnesian limestone rubble plinth, handmade brick with ashlar dressings and hipped slate roof. Rectangular plan. Single cell carried on a stone projection from the outer side of the elevated terrace. Tall, single storey, in classical style; brick except for large Venetian entrance of stone, which is the principal feature of the design; dentilled cornice, moulded wooden eaves cornice, hipped roof. Left return wall has a tall sashed window with a keystone in a gauged brick flat arch. Rear has a round headed doorway to the basement and above a similar window. INTERIOR has stone flagged floor of hexagons with small square spacers and moulded coving to ceiling.
