CITY OF WESTMINSTER PRINCES STREET TQ 2881 SE (west side) 56/205 No. 5 II House and shop, c. 1720-30, refronted c. 1830. Colourwashed brick to front, with Felmish bond brown brick to rear; double-glazed plain- tile roof; brick left end stack. Double-depth plan with small rear left wing, 4 storeys with basement; 2-window range. Early C19 decorative wrought-iron railings surround top of basement area; C20 plate-glass window flanked by C20 doors with overlights set in early C19 classical architraves with cornices over pilasters. Moulded stuccoed architraves to all windows, vih cornices to first floor and Regency-style wrought- iron balconies to first- and second-floor windows: sashes with margin- light glazing bars to first floor, French windows with margin-light sashes to second floor and 8-pane sashes with margin lights to attic storey. Interior: c. 1720-30 plaster cornices to ground floor; panelling to left of dog-leg with landing staircase of c. 1720-30, with fret- cut brackets and panelled soffits to carriage; moulded handrail set on turned balusters from ground floor to basement. First floor has early C19 panelled shutters, decorative plaster cornices and classical fireplace with fluted pilasters; panelled wall of c. 1720-30 to right. Second floor has early C19 classical fireplace with roundels. Basement has fine lead cistern dated 1726 which is "in situ" to front: date and decoration in raised relief, with classical figures and dolphins set in strapwork surround.
