7/28 Remains of Newton Abbey 3rd February 1967 at SE 444 277 II

Ruins of abbey on moated site. Medieval. Now inaccessible on foot, because surrounded by water of Newton Ings. Telescopic inspection from Newton Lane reveals only a pile of 7 or 8 courses of dressed masonry at the south-west corner of the island, the rest of the site being overgrown with shrubs.
