Wheel pump and frame adjacent to east of Pump House
II
Pump. C19. Cast iron wheel pump on original cast iron frame. The pump stem,
with upper and lower spouts, is attached to a timber support post set in front
(north) of the wheel and frame. Frame comprises a pair of supports each with
curved sides enclosing a head above 2 Gothic arches and 3 similar base arches.
Iron side ties. The frame supports a cranked shaft driven by a balanced, 4
spoked hand wheel. Moulded frame inscription reads: J. Tylor & Sons, Engineers,
Warwick Lane, London. A rare survival of a wheel pump in Essex. The pump is
now covered by a C20 gabled pump house with seat at rear. J. Booker, Batsford
