SU45NE HIGHCLERE 186-0/7/10010 HIGHCLERE PARK Live Arch Bridge

II

Drive bridge over park lake. Circa early C19. Yellow and red brick. Single-span wide segmental arch with rusticated brick voussoirs and rendered keyblocks, but without parapets which are probably missing. C20 railings in place of parapets. The bridge carries a drive that crosses the south end of a smaller lake which feeds Duns Mere, a large lake created during the late C18 remodelling of the park to the plan drawn up by Capability Brown. SOURCE: Depicted on Major Bull's 1818 map of the park.
