UPPER SLAUGHTER SP 12 SE 6/211 Hill Lodge to Copse Hill - and adjoining gatepiers with abutting walls II - II
Lodge to Copse Hill(q.v) c.1878 by C F Hayward for H A Brassey, the railway king. Rough-faced rubble, concrete tile roofs, coped verges on kneelers. Asymmetrical plan, fanciful gable Jacobean style. 1½ storeys. Arched entrance with shaped gable on corbels diagonally set in corner, motto in gable. Angled bay window to right, 2-storey gabled square bay to left return and further gable to left; string over ground floor. A piece of skirting and a bill-head found in the space below the attic floor are dated 1878, the former signed Troughton and Hayward of Bourton-on-the-Water. Gatepiers adjoin: similar materials, shaped capping both with finials; flanking short length of abutment walls.
