The White House Hospital (including flanking wings) II

2. 1903; designed by Romaine Walker for the Walker - Munro family, for whom it was built as a summer home. The house is thought to incorporate seafaring motifs: viz, porthole windows in South elevation, "lighthouse" tower in the North elevation and central "bridge" room: formerly also a bronze galleon weathervane and lifeboats hanging davits on the front wall. Two storey house with roughcast walls and slate roofs, with wide bracketed eaves and battered stacks. The main elevation faces North East;- the seaward elevation is set on a curve and attached to symmetrical quadrant wings, extending seawards. In the North East elevation, the central bridge room, with pyramidal roof and shallow, horizontal multi-mullioned window strip at eaves level, is sited above the pedimented entrance wing with cored soffit to pediment, two windows to the upper floor and horsehoe shaped entrance arch below; battered polygonal "lighthouse" tower adjoins on North East, with single-light windows below and polygonal horizontal window strip at eaves level beneath polygonal roof. Rectangular two storey projection to North West with two two-light casements in front wall and modern window replacements in the return; attached to this on North East is a semi-circular two-storey tower with single-light windows and wide bracketed eaves. In seaward elevation, terrace wall with portholes and flight of steps atEast, set in front of upper floor with sash windows and doorways, and central rectangular bridge room wing, the horizontal windows strip at eaves level set above a central doorway in arcading and flanking sash windows. The flanking wings, formerly open-sided, have been blocked in with earlier to mid C20 windows, but terminating in taller end pavilions with pyramidally hipped roof.
