CONVENT ROAD (North Side)
Former Port Regis School

(Formerly listed as Port Regis School)

GV
II

Lord Holland originally intended the building of circa 1750 to be occupied by Anglican nuns but they never came. The building which had 5 cells around a cloister was given to several poor and industrious families who were retainers of the Hollands. Rooms were also used to house the overflow of guests from Holland House. However by 1831 the convent had been rebuilt. It received the name "Port Regis" from King's Gate which was re-erected in the grounds of the Convent.

Early to mid C19. Two storeys flint-faced with stone quoins and dressings. Crenellated parapet. Doorcase set in an archway with quatrefoil motifs. One three-light mullioned window flanked by battlemented turrets.

The garden elevation is of two storeys knapped flint with stone dressings. To the left are two three-light canted bays, battemented with an archway between Mullioned or mullioned and transomed windows. To the right is a portion of two storeys crenellated with five mullioned windows built on the lines of the original building which had five cells. Buttresses. Arched colonnade on ground floor. To the right of this are extensions of 1870 and later.

All listed buildings in Port Regis School grounds form a group.
