Details

FORRABURY AND THE BRIDGE, Boscastle SW 09 SE MINSTER 1/18 The Old Mill GV II Water mill and millhouse, converted to craft shops and restaurant. Millhouse possibly C18 with mill circa mid C19. Slate stone rubble. Rag slate roofs; the millhouse with gable ends and the mill with higher roof with hipped ends continued down over outshot extension. Millhouse with brick stack on left hand gable end and projecting stone rubble stack with truncated brick shaft to rear. Millhouse of probably single depth 2 room and cross passage plan, the right hand room heated by a rear lateral stack and the left hand room by a gable end. The mill is positioned on the right hand gable end of the millhouse with an overshot wheel to rear. Millhouse of 2 storey with basement; asymmetrical three window front with brick segmental arches to openings. C20 part glazed door with Cl9 2-light casements on ground and first floor. Mill of 3 storeys; brick segmental arches to openings with C19 and C20 fenestration. Stone rubble steps up to loft on right. Hybrid overshot wheel to rear with water carried on aqueduct and leat continuing to rear of millhouse. Interior machinery in mill largely removed.
