1. LODGEMOOR LANE
5227 Lodgemoor Mills Office Block (Formerly listed under Cainscross) SO 8405 5/88 SO 8404 6/88 1.5.51. II* GV 2. C17 nucleus: hammerdressed rubble with pitched stone roof. 3 storeys. 3 gables on west side. Various mullioned windows, some with lead glazing bars. Early/mid C18 extension to south. Brick on west side: ashlar on east. Pitched stone roof. 3 storeys. East elevation has 10 ranges of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, moulded stone architraves and bull-nosed sills. Door in horizontal rusticated surround with applied Ionic columns, taking segmental dentilled pediment. To south of this extension is a C17/C18 block. Hammerdressed stone. Modern pitched roof. 3 storeys. Mullioned windows, 1 with hoodmould. 2 oval oculi in gable end. To south of this again is a late C18 l-storey wing, with 4 much larger double-hung sash wmndows with glazing bars. To north of everything is an early C19 block. Hammerdressed rubble. 3 storeys. 5 ranges of segment-headed windows with glazing bars and 1 range of loading doors. doors. Interior of early or mid C18 block has staircase (now divided in 2) with fluted newels and fluted muntins to dado wainscotting, turned balusters, and handrail ramped to newel. Until recently it had a Chinese Chippendale back stair (now in Stroud Museum). In late C18 wing is a chimneypiece and overmantel of circa 1740-50. Stone. Palladian type with some earlier details (eg gadrooning), but some Rococo details as well. Fireplace has gadrooned surround, then shouldered architrave with acanthus flanking fluted urn with serpent handles, supporting pulvinated frieze with oak leaves and flanked by Rococo scrolls incorporating wolfs' heads. Overmantel flanked by Ionic columns, then festoons of flowers, has female mask in sunburst with arms and musical instruments in spandrels. Broken scrolled pediment with egg-shaped urn and swags. Lodgemoor Mills,Lodgemoor Mills Office Block, Nos 1 & 2 Lodgemoor Cottages and Lodgemoor Mills Bridge form a group together with Fromehall Mills.
