Details

FORRABURY AND HIGH STREET (east side) Boscastle SX 19 SW MINSTER 2/73 Round Tree Cottage GV II House. Circa early C18. Rendered and painted slate-stone rubble and cob. Rag slate roof with gable ends and brick end stacks. 2 room and cross passage plan with service rooms added in rear outshot in circa late C18. Interior partly remodelled in late C20. 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window front refenestration in late C20. In ground floor to left, a 3-light greenstone window which lights the fireplace of the left hand room; this window is similar to one in the Old Post Office, Tintagel (qv) and could possibly be late C15 or early C16 and probably reset. Alternatively the window could be in situ suggesting that the house was considerably remodelled in the early C18 or possibly the window is in fact early C18 and thus a late survival of its type. 2- light casement with remains of slate hood above and C20 glazed door near centre. C20 3-light window to right. First floor with two C20 windows in half dormers with 2-light casement in centre. Interior largely remodelled in late C20. The remains of a circa C17 carved cornice, possibly from a hall screen, were found reset in the rear outshot. Roof structure circa early C18 with principals and collars lap-jointed and pegged.
