Pair of cottages. Mid to later C18. Coursed squared sandstone with quoins, stone slate roof. Rectangular double-depth plan, each one unit. Two storeys and two bays, almost symmetrical; first floor band; central coupled doorways with plain surrounds; No. 55 to left (recently cleaned masonry) has one three-light window on each floor, No. 57 to right has a similar window at ground floor, a two-light window above, all with flat-faced mullions and plain surrounds. Left gable has one similar two-light window an each floor; gable coping with returned ends. Chimney on ridge at junction with No. 59 to right. Rear has fenestration matching the front.
