HORSFORTH NEW LAY LANE SE 23 NW (east side) 8/140 Toll House to 19.10.1962 Iron Bridge (formerly 1;6te4 1-I an: ion with that bridge) GV II
Toll house to Iron Bridge (q.v.). Probably 1819 (as bridge). Coursed squared sandstone, slate roof. L-shaped plan formed by two conjoined 2-unit ranges. Two storeys, sited at north-east corner of bridge, with main facade towards the deck; sill-bands to both storeys, carried round; ground floor has an altered tripartite opening to the left, (a doorway altered as a window, with sidewindows, the left blocked);and to the right patched masonry with an inserted window (perhaps replacing formerly similar openings); at 1st floor 2 Venetian windows; all these openings with plain surrounds. Low-pitched hipped roof, with chimney stack offset to the right. The left return wall has a central doorway and 2 horizontal-rectangular windows on each floor, all these openings with raised plain surrounds, and the windows with altered glazing. (Modern lean-to garage attached to rear, not included in the item).
