Lesser gentry house, now 3 dwellings. Early C17 for John Craven, altered.
Coursed squared sandstone, stone slate roof. Double-depth plan under 2-span
roof. Two storeys; almost symmetrical east front has continuous
dripmould, former doorway offset slightly to right of centre, with moulded
surround, altered as a window, 2 inserted doorways flanking this, with plain
surrounds, 2 large transomed windows on each floor; that to left at ground
floor 3 + 2 lights with a king-mullion and the others all 4 lights, and a
smaller 3-light mullioned window between those at 1st floor; all these deeply
recessed, with chamfered mullions. Corniced gable chimneys, and unusual
moulded gable copings. Rear block (west side), has 3 recessed mullioned
windows on each floor, all of 5 lights except that at right-hand end of
ground floor, which is of 3 lights; similar gable copings and chimneys, and a
modern chimney on the ridge.

Interior: said to have contained fine carved panelling until mid-1960's but
now altered.

History: built for John Craven, and sold to Stanhope family in C17.
