Details

REDGRAVE THE STREET (SOUTH WEST TM 07 NW SIDE) 1/100 - Generations Farm House -- II House. Late C15 or early C16, raised, stack and floor inserted late C16, extended C17; altered, stack rebuilt, reroofed and extended C19. Timber frame, plastered with scoring to resemble ashlar. Steeply pitched plaintiled roof with pantiles on service additions. 3 bay core originally had 2 open bays with a storeyed lower bay towards road, altered with stack in cross passage and hall lower bay to form a 2 cell lobby entry plan, 2 service bay additions to left. 2 storeys and attic with 1 storey and attic additions. Main block has a central part fielded 6 panelled door, reeded architrave with a cornice, ground floor C20 casements, first floor architraved 4:8 pane sashes. Boxed eaves, C19 central ridge stack. Right gable end attic 3-light leaded casement with a hoodboard. C17 kitchen and C19 dairy bays to left have a central C19 ridge stack, gable end 2-light attic window. To rear a C19 brick lean-to from main range with glazing bar casements, a stack with a rebuilt cap, a C20 gabled dormer; an entrance into earlier service bay and a 2-light box dormer. Interior: chamfered cross axial binding beams, stop chamfered joists, altered close studding with arched braces in walling, part of a 4-light diamond mullioned hall window below original wall plate with an edge halved scarf joint. A queen post truss with a cambered collar and no bracing survives from C16 reroofing at left end with a shaped bracket to plate. Attached to service end are flint and clay lump outbuildings, all pantiled, part open to rear.
