4/104 Munstead Place 3/5/73 II
House. 1891-2, although hoppers dated 1899, by Sir Edwin Lutyens for Gertrude Jekyll. Coursed and snecked Bargate stone below, half timbered above with rendered infill, plain tiled roofs. Two storeys with tall brick stacks to gable ridges on left and right and to front right of centre. Entrance front:- triple gable front with larger gable to ends. Diagonal framing in left hand gable, close studding to centre and right. Leaded, wood-framed casement fenestration with one window to each gable on first floor under pentice drip moulding. 12-light outer windows, 8-light to centre. Irregular fenestration to ground floor with one window to left in pentice extension, one window on ground floor of outer gables. Moulded bressumer across ground floor. Porch recess to centre, brick lined, with ribbed and studded door in flanking lights with bottle glass glazing. Braced posts to porch entrance. Right hand return front:- facing 'formal' garden. Two windowed, half-timbered range to left with gabled bay to right end at junction with large tile hung extensions to right, extending across rear. Left hand return front:- Gable bay to centre with attic window, one 8-light window on first floor and one 10-light window below. Large window across ground floor to right with gabled dormer over. Interior:- Classical style staircase. Gardens originally designed by Gertrude Jekyll.
