Details

SS 90 SW THORVERTON 8/109 Raddon Garden - GV II House. Probably C17 or earlier origins, thoroughly modernized and extended in the late C20. Whitewashed rendered cob on stone rubble; thatched roof with plain ridge, hipped at left end, gabled at right end ; right end stack, rear lateral stack to main block. Plan Single depth main block probably 3 rooms wide, the left hand room heated by the rear lateral stack. Large C20 2-storey addition at reaar and single storey block at left end. The early plan form is not clear but the right end may have been an outbuilding. Exterior 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 5 window front, front door with C20 thatched porch on posts to left of centre. Fenestration of C20 2-light casements, 2 panes per light. Interior Largely modernized fireplace to lateral stack has local volcanic stone jambs and a replaced lintel; right hand ground floor room has a roughly chamfered cross beam. Roofspace not inspected but may have timbers of interest. One of a good thatched group at Raddon, included for group value.
