II

House. C17 origins, refurbished and enlarged in the early C19, some C20 modernisation. Coursed sandstone ashlar and front block is timber-framed above first floor level, the end walls are weatherboarded; brick stacks and chimneyshafts; peg-tile roof.

Plan: House faces east south east, say east. Front block has a 2 or 3-room plan. Axial stack between the centre and right (north) end rooms. Parallel rear project at right angles to rear of centre and right. Since no internal inspection was available at the time of this survey details of the internal arrangements cannot be described. Nevertheless the framing on the front suggests that the front block is essentially C17, the ground floor level underbuilt in the C19. It was probably a lobby entrance plan house.

2 storeys with C20 single storey extension on the right (north) end.

Exterior: Attractive 2-window front of C19 and C20 casements with glazing bars. Left first floor window has a gable over and the right one is a canted bay under the gable-end of a crosswing. It has plain bargeboards with apex finial. First floor framing is 3 bays with curving tension braces. The left end is certainly C17. Front doorway is roughly central. It is behind a gabled stone porch; segmental outer arch with projecting keystone under a plaque carved with a heraldic motif. Gable has coping. Main roof is gable- ended.

Interior: Was not available for inspection at the time of this survey although the owner reports C17 beams in the front block.
