Details
NZ 05 SE CONSETT THE TERRACE (East side) Shotley Bridge 5/89 (inset) Shotley Villa, Shotley Villa East and Shotley Villa West GV II Shotley Villas, 2 houses now 3. Dated 1855 on central plaque. Snecked sandstone with ashlar dressings and plinth; Welsh slate roof; stone roofs on canted bays. Tudor style. 2 storeys, 6 windows in all. Wide outer bays project, with corner pilasters; narrow projections in inner bays, all under gables. High plinth with ground-level band. Each house has steps with round-coped walls up to central many-panelled door and Tudor-arched overlight in chamferd Tudor-arched surround, with scroll-bracketed hood. 4-pane sash windows in plain stone surrounds except for ground-floor outer canted bay windows with low-pitched hipped roofs. Label moulds except to windows over doors; corbel table over these and over centre of block, which contains round-headed curved niche in plain stone surround, and shield above inscribed SHOTLEY VILLA 1855. Statue of angel holding shield in niche. Gables with bargeboards over end bays and gablets over inner bays, with tall spike finials on shafts with ball pendants; similar treatment to return gables. Roll-moulded stone chimney stacks on each return and in centre, with 2 tall castellated yellow pots at ends and 8 at centre. Left return has gabled porch. C20 rear addition in similar style not of interest.
