GV
II
Chest tomb. Early C19 or earlier with inscription panels of several dates. Ashlar Thorverton stone with freestone inscription panels. Rectangular chest with a heart carved in relief on the west end and a chamfered lid. The south side has an inscription panel commemorating William Crosse, died 1825; signature of carver now illegible. The east end has a Gothic Revival inscription panel with a blind trefoil-headed arch commemorating John Crosse, died 1846. The north side panel commemorates Catherine Fortbury, wife of the Reverend B. Beauchamp, died 1832. The chest was formerly surrounded by iron railings. An interesting monument illustrating various styles of inscription.
