Details
NZ 15 NE STANLEY B 6310 (North side) Burnopfield 2/141 Leazes Hall 19/7/50 GV II House, now private old peoples' rest home. Early C18 with C19 additions. Coursed squared sandstone with tooled ashlar dressings, plinth and quoins; right extension rendered and rubble with quoins and ashlar dressings; Welsh slate roof with rendered and brick chimneys and stone gable coping. Main house 2 storeys, 5 bays and right set-back extensions of 2 lower storeys, 2 bays, and one storey, one bay. Main block has C20 porch enclosing 6-panel double doors and overlight in lugged architrave under large scroll-bracketed hood; margined sashes in architraves; chamfered quoins. Right extension has 2 ground-floor and one first-floor margined sashes with projecting stone sills; rubble bay at right has similar sash with flat stone lintel and projecting stone sill; small right extension blank. Steeply-pitched roof has stone gable coping on moulded kneelers; 2 end brick chimneys with plinths and bands; right extension has tall rendered chimney on gable with offset. Left and right returns have plain stone surrounds to rectangular attic lights. Rear 2-span addition at right-angles to main block is raised and extended from original lower one-span wing. C20 porch on right return not of interest. Interior: some 2-panel doors with L hinges; some C18 4-panel doors in architraves.
