TG 13 SE WICKMERE WOLTERTON PARK

5/90 No. 1 Dairy Cottages

GV II


Cottage. Probably C17 or early C18 with later C18 and Cl9
alterations and C19 extension. Flint and brick with brick quoins,
south gable end header and garden wall bond brick and south end of
west front rebuilt in Flemish bond brick. Red clay pantile roof
with coped gable ends, the south end with brick tumbling. Gable
end stack with rebuilt shaft.

2-room plan with central entrance, the left hand (north) room
heated from gable end stack. Outshut added to north end in C19.

2 storeys. asymmetrical 2 window west front. Small C19 2-light
casements and large 3-light casement on left of ground floor.
Central doorway with plank door. Flemish bond brick single storey
outshut on left (north) gable end with pantile lean-to roof and
Cl9 3-light casementn on front end; blocked window above in gable
and on first floor at rear. C19 2 and 3-light casements on south
gable end.

Interior: Fireplace in north gable end has timber lintel and
lateral beam above against stack. Remainder of interior not
inspected.

Note: This building is depicted on the 1732 estate map and with
No 4 Dairy Cottages (qv) is all that remains of the village to
have survived the landscaping of Wolterton Park.
