Details
WINKLEIGH SOUTH STREET, Winkleigh SS 6308 11/188 Linden House 21.2.77 GV II House. Later C18 with C20 alterations. Rendered walls. Mansard slate roof. Rendered brick stack at either end. Plan: double depth plan with one room either side of central stairhall. Small service range at either end. Late C20 alterations include insertion of a partition from the stairhall to the rear right-hand room. Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 5-window front - late C20 PVC windows on 1st floor which imitate 2 original 12-pane sash windows on ground floor to left, early C20 replica sashes to right. Central original pedimented porch supported on Ionic pillars at the front with flat pilasters behind. Panelled reveals to doorcase with original 6-panelled door which has semi-circular fanlight above. Small lower service range at each end. Rear elevation has semicircular headed stair window at centre. Interior: the front right-hand room retains its original chimneypiece which has a frieze carved with foliage design and a central fluted plaque. The 2 left-hand rooms have simple moulded cornices. Egg and dart cornice to first floor room. Open string staircase has carved tread ends, turned balusters and square newels with recessed panels. To include rendered rubble garden wall at front with square gate piers at centre and towards either end.
