Cemetery lodge and attached gates. 1870-71 by T J Hill for Enfield Burial Board; builder J and J Field. Coursed rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings; contrasting-colured slate roof with tile ridge; cast-iron railings and gates. 13-storey, 3-bay lodge with rear outshut. Attached to each side is a pedestrian gate, a carriage gate, and then a short, quadrant, section of railing. In Gothic style with quoins; moulded plinths; moulded kneelers, roll-moulded coping, and finials to gables. Lodge: central gabled porch with offset side buttresses; pointed archway with head-stopped hoodmould; diagonally-boarded door; and fanlight with Y-tracery. Flanking 4-light bay windows have cusped stone tracery; cornices; and stone roofs. 1st floor: 1-light window flanked by 2-light windows which break eaves under gablets with cross finials; all have cusped lights. Raised verges. Rear: stepped raised verges to outshut; behind it corniced lateral stacks with offsets flank central gableted window. Returns: a 2-light window on each floor; pointed-arched recess to gable. Railings and gates: railings are on low, chamfered, walls terminating at piers. Carriage gate-piers have 2-stage buttresses with ball-flower decorated cornices and decorative gablets. Bars of gates and railings have decorative finials and the gates incorporate cusped arches and decorative base and top rails.
