7/239A Barn to rear of 29.4.86 Smallbrook Cottage

GV II

Threshing barn. Circa 1500 with C19 alterations. Timber framed with sandstone cladding, brick dressed to angles, and plain tiled roof, hipped to right and half-hipped to left. Rectangular. Four framed bays with opposing entries to left of centre in shallow break, one with C19 sliding doors. Brick-edged breathers to front and rear and on left hand return front either side of round arched hood panel. Pentice extension to right with leaded fenestration, C19 stable range, now workshop, extending to left. Interior:- Unusually complete roof with diminishing principals, windbracing and Queen-strut trusses. Fine jowled posts to wall frame and unusual passing brace, S-shape, to wall frame to right. Rear aisle. Evidence in roof for possible hip to left end.
