Hamilton House

II

House and cottage. Two builds, probably late C17. Coursed squared sandstone.
Steeply-pitched, swept pantile roof, raised verge with ashlar coping and shaped
kneeler to left gable ashlar, coping to right. End stone stacks to each dwelling,
partly rebuilt in brick. Two storeys, house 2 bays, cottage to left one bay.
Chamfered plinth to ground floor cill level. House: central 4-panel door with
replaced stone lintel. Cottage: glazed door with chamfered lintel. Windows: one C19
12-pane sash to first floor of house, otherwise C20 glazing throughout. Remains of
stone lintels with keystones to 3 windows. Interior: chamfered bressummer with
tongued stops to cottage fireplace. House has early C18 closed-string, dog-leg
staircase with turned balusters and moulded handrail, the newels rectangular with
moulded-base pendants and a curved bracket to the bottom newel.
