Church of St Wilfrid

Church. C12 origins with C13 and C14 windows. Heavily restored C19. South porch
C19. Stone, cement rendered inside and out. Welsh slate roof with ashlar coping and
kneelers. Shingled bell tower. Aisleless nave with bell tower, south porch and
chancel. Nave: south wall: one Norman window and a C13 window with 2 pointed trefoil
lights and quatrefoil in plate tracery over. Chamfered doorway has door with
ogee-headed panelling. Chancel: north wall: a Norman window and remodelled Norman
doorway. To south wall a further C13 window like that in nave. East window: probably
early C14, has 3 trefoil lights with 3 quatrefoils above. Font: black marble
hexagonal bowl with concave sides ornamented with shields. Stone base with donor
inscription of Thomas le Scrope (d.14949) and Elizabeth, his wife. Some castellated
bench ends of medieval date and Gothic stalls carved by the Rev W T Kingsley, rector
1859-1917.
