Details
ST5015 ODCOMBE CP DRAY ROAD (West side) 10/248 Odcombe V A Primary School and front boundary railings (formerly listed as School) 19.4.61 GV II School. Mid and late C19. Ham stone coursed rubble, ashlar dressings; Welsh slate roof between stepped coped gables; stone chimney stack. Single-storey, 3+3 bays. Earlier and slightly larger section, to east, has 3-light pointed arched windows with Y-tracery, no labels, with pointed arched doorway under arched label between bays 1 and 2, and with later door in lean-to against east gable: on west gable a late C19 extension with end buttresses, moulded eaves course, cruciform wave mould mullioned and transomed windows, in hollow-chamfered recesses, under square labels which drop to transome level; these rectangular-leaded below and ornamentally-leaded above transomes. Small lancet window in south gable. Interior not seen. About one metre south of the building, with returns at each end, are wrot-iron railings on low stone wall, in all about one metre high, with arrowhead spikes and urn finials to braced standards, gap opposite doorway, all contributing to the setting of the school.
