7/82 Clough House Farmhouse - - II
Farmhouse, built as ferme ornee probably c.1840, altered, now house. Sandstone rubble with scored render, some ashlar, all whitewashed, stone slate roof with 2 chimneys on the ridge and one at left side. Long 5-bay facade flanked by gabled crosswings of slightly unequal width. Two storeys, symmetrical, with details in Jacobean style. Original house in 3 middle bays was flanked by workshops, and wings were barns. In the centre is a narrow slightly-projecting 2-storey porch of ashlar which has a tall chamfered doorway with a hoodmould, a tall 2-light mullioned window with hoodmould at 1st floor, a carved shield above this, and steeply- pitched gable with coping scrolled at the eaves and base of former finial at the apex. To each side are 2 windows on each floor, all 3 lights with mullions and hoodmoulds, and transoms in those at ground floor. Wings originally had one arched blind window on each floor and a gable finial, but now have matching 4-light fenestration and lack finials (C20 alterations).' Rear is of less interest, but east wing is longer, centre has stair turret with full-height window, and right of this a 3-bay 2-storey outshut with 5 square windows (with glazing bars) which may have been part of an earlier house. Building prominently sited on hillside facing Turton Tower (q.v.), c.½ a mile to south east, from which it was probably an eye-catcher; detailing matches that of No.97 High Street, Chapeltown (q.v.).
